Expert Advisor (EA)

Definition

An automated trading program that runs on MetaTrader platforms, executing trades based on pre-programmed rules.

How It Works

Expert Advisors (EAs) are robots that trade automatically on MetaTrader 4/5. They follow coded logic — entry/exit rules, position sizing, risk management — without human intervention.

In prop trading, EA policies vary widely: some firms fully allow EAs, others ban them entirely, and some allow them with restrictions (no HFT, no latency arbitrage). If you trade with an EA, verify the firm's policy before purchasing a challenge.

Some firms also prohibit using the same EA across multiple accounts or sharing EAs with other traders on the same firm.
