E-mini

Definition

Electronically traded futures contracts that are a fraction of the size of standard futures contracts — popular in prop trading.

How It Works

E-mini contracts are smaller versions of standard futures contracts, traded on the CME Group. The most popular is the E-mini S&P 500 (ES), which represents $50 x the S&P 500 index value.

Other popular E-minis include E-mini Nasdaq (NQ), E-mini Dow (YM), and E-mini Russell 2000 (RTY). Micro E-mini contracts are even smaller (1/10th of an E-mini).

In prop trading, E-mini futures are the most commonly traded instruments on firms like Apex Trader Funding, Topstep, and Earn2Trade. They offer high liquidity, tight spreads, and clear risk parameters.
